Corrie: Le Vell scenes to be dropped
ITV have confirmed that Coronation Street actor Michael Le Vell will not appear in the ITV1 soap whilst he is facing child sex offences.
Scenes featuring Le Vell’s character Kevin Webster will be removed from all immediate episodes of the programme as the legal proceedings against the actor continue.
Earlier today we reported that Le Vell has been charged with 19 offences including raping a child, indecently assaulting a child and sexual activity with a child.
An ITV spokesperson said: “Given the serious nature of these charges, Michael Le Vell will not be appearing in Coronation Street pending the outcome of legal proceedings. It would not be appropriate for us to comment further at this time.”
Le Vell was charged under his real name Michael Turner and is due to appear at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on February 27. He changed his name to Le Vell due to there already being an established actor named Michael Turner, who is possibly best known for his role as James Henry Pollard in fellow ITV soap Crossroads between 1981 and 1985.
Le Vell, who has played the role of Kevin since 1983 was previously questioned over the alleged offences in 2011 but the matter was later dropped.
