Veteran actress Rachel Ames is returning to ABC‘s last remaining soap General Hospital as part of its 50th celebrations.

Ames will reprise her role of Audrey Hardy at the end of March. At the moment it is unclear how long the actress will be returning to General Hospital for but her return is tied in with the soap’s 50th anniversary.

The news of Ames’ return to G.H was first announced by Genie Francis on the chat-show Katie and was later confirmed by a spokesperson for the soap.

Actress Rachel Ames first played the character of Audrey in 1964 and is one of the soap’s longest serving players. Ames continued in the role until 2003 when she dropped down to recurring status until 2007 when she departed. A brief return followed in 2009. As well as appearing in General Hospital the actress crossed over to spin-off Port Charles in 1997 for a stint.

With news of Ames’ return to General Hospital that means so far the medical soap has brought back Genie Francis, Jacklyn Zeman, Kin Shriner and Jon Lindstrom for its 50th anniversary. There are also rumours that John Stamos is set to reprise his role of Blackie.
