Long-serving Coronation Street extra dies, aged 84
A Coronation Street extra, who appeared on the show for over 50 years, has passed away aged 84.
Chris Canavan was the programme’s longest-serving extra, who over the years appeared as a builder called Dusty, a rat catcher at the Ogden’ house, and a window cleaner – as well as making frequent appearances in Roys Rolls and The Rovers Return.
The Mirror reports he passed away after suffering a heart attack.
A Coronation Street spokesman said: “We are saddened to hear of Chris’s death, he was a lovely man who was a pleasure to be around.”
The granddad from Preston, who also had supporting roles in Prime Suspect, Brideshead Revisited and The Liver Birds, described acting as a “way of life” in a 2012 interview.
Not a person to watch Soaps, came across this, just. Do not know this person, but just seems sad, there is no accolade to him considering he was a Street extra. So i drink a toast to your life Chris, God Bless you-John
