Freema Agyeman Rules Out Doctor Who Return

Doctor-Who-MarthaFreema Agyeman has ruled out returning to Doctor Who for its forthcoming 50th anniversary.

The actress played Martha Jones; companion to the 10th Doctor (David Tennant) in the third series before later returning for five episodes of the sci-fi drama’s fifth season.  Agyeman also played the role in three episodes of Torchwood‘s second season opposite John Barrowman and Eve Myles.

As the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who approaches there is much speculation as to how the series will mark the occasion. Little has been given away about the celebrations by the BBC or Steven Moffat – though we do now know it will be in 3D – but it is widely expected former stars will return.

The actress ruled out returning on Twitter where she stated “I’m contributing 2a programme for BBC AMERICA but not involved in the drama. Excited 2watch tho”. The actress went on to state she was open to returning in the future ‘Would I play Martha Jones again? : Yes – under the right circumstances ie character development opportunity’

The character of Martha Jones last appeared – briefly – in David Tennant’s last story, The End of Time. Since leaving the sc-fi series the actress has played Tattycoram in Little Dorrit, Alesha Phillips in Law & Order UK and is currently starring in American drama series The Carrie Diaries.

Now whether we should believe Agyeman or not over this is another point; Moffat and the BBC are VERY keen to keep the 50th special top-secret so it is not ruined for fans so its entirely possible everyone involved is being asked to deny they are!
