Mirror Group jounalists arrested by phone-hacking officers

Three men and one woman have been arrested and bailed today by detectives on suspicion of conspiracy to intercept telephone communications.

The Metropolitan Police announced that officers from Operation Weeting, who are investigating phone-hacking at News Corporation, have identified and are investigating a suspected conspiracy to intercept telephone voice-mails at Mirror Group Newspapers.

The BBC says that the current People editor James Scott was one of those arrested today along with former Sunday Mirror editor Tina Weaver. All four have been bailed tonight, returning to London Police stations on various dates next month.

As part of the inquiry four people were arrested at separate addresses at approximately 06:00hrs this morning (14 March) on suspicion of conspiracy to intercept telephone communications contrary to the Criminal Law Act 1997. All of them are journalists or former journalists on Mirror Group Newspaper titles.

In due course officers will be making contact with people they believe have been victims of the suspected voicemail interceptions.
