Katherine Jenkins hits back at Jan Moir
It must be wonderful to be Jan Moir. The Daily (Hate) Mail columnist whom is so perfect in every way she spends most of her time criticising the rest of us who don’t match up to her high standards. This week Moir once more turned her column into an attack on someone – this time singer Katherine Jenkins. However today Jenkins hit back with a wonderful rebuke.
Katherine, pictured earlier this year with Kelly Osbourne at Champneys’ BritWeek Gala in L.A., took to a social networking site to respond to the notorious newspaper columnist.
Jan Moir, who has been criticised several times, most famously to date over her crude and disgusting comments over the death of singer Stephen Gately in 2009, took a shot at Welsh lyric mezzo-soprano Jenkins yesterday over her involvement in Sunday’s London Marathon.
Moir’s vicious attack said the singer was “fame-hungry”, adding that Jenkins had run the marathon in “lashings of pink lip gloss, sooty false eyelashes and sweeping coal black eyeliner”. Fashion expert Moir also felt that the star wearing sunglasses during the race was not the done thing either.
She went on to suggest she only took part in the race due to being solely “self-interested” noting that Jenkins had filled her Twitter account on Sunday with “smug pellets of vanity masquerading as concern for others.”
Hitting back at the insulting article Jenkins posted a response on Twitter today,
“Jan (Moir), I wish you love & happiness in your life. I adore & support other women and I only wish you could do the same. I ran on Sunday in memory of my father & to raise money (£25,000) for an excellent charity (@macmillancancer) who helped him when he was dying. Yes, I twittered about it but I did so to share my progress & day with those kind people on twitter who had supported & sponsored me.
“I ran in sunglasses because it was sunny. I tied my hair back in a pony tail because I expected to sweat. As if you had some insider knowledge you wrote I was wearing eye shadow, eye liner& lip gloss. Wrong again – none of the above – I had Vaseline on my lips, handed to us by St Johns Ambulance on our way round the route.
“You can knock me all you like but you cannot take away from me what I know I accomplished last weekend. Next time you run a marathon Jan, I will be the first to sponsor you, because I know how much guts, hard work & determination it takes.”
