Comedy Awards continue on Channel 4

Jonathan Ross will continue to host The British Comedy Awards for Channel 4.

Ross has been the anchor of the UK’s premier comedy awards ceremony since 1991, the yearly event was originally broadcast by ITV from 1990 onwards – however the show switched to Channel 4 in 2010 with a three-year deal.

“I must be mad. But bring it on! It’s always fun, and I wouldn’t miss it for the world.” – Ross

The British Comedy Awards producers have signed a two year deal to remain with Channel 4. Head of Entertainment, Justin Gorman also confirmed Ross will remain as host for the live ceremony.

“Jonathan has the experience and countless wit and whiles to command a roomful of hopeful and expectant comedians in what tends to be a lively night in the comedy calendar. We are delighted that Jonathan has agreed to continue his role as host and look forward to the night.” – Gorman

The award night is a Unique TV and CPL Production. *The 2007 gong show wasn’t televised, due to a previous phone-in ‘scandal’ for ITV. Following a separate ‘scandal’ for Ross at the BBC he was replaced for the 2008 ITV ceremony by actor and comedian Angus Deayton.

The show originally was a much more classy affair, broadcast live from The London Palladium with Michael Parkinson as host.
