Eve Myles becomes Frankie for BBC Drama

BBC-One-2013Frankie is a new six-part series created and written by Lucy Gannon of Central Television’s Soldier Soldier fame.

The BBC describe the drama as a ‘heart-warming, funny and ultimately life-affirming series is set in the challenging and complex world of district nursing.’

Eve Myles plays the title role and is joined by Dean Lennox Kelly as Frankie’s long term boyfriend Ian, and Derek Riddell as her confidante and team member Andy.

Additional cast includes Jemma Redgrave, Julia Ford, Leila Mimmack and Carla Henry.

Frankie was commissioned by Danny Cohen, Controller, BBC One and Ben Stephenson, Controller, BBC Drama Commissioning.

Soldier Soldier was produced by Central, in the Midlands, from 1991 to 1997 for ITV. It starred Robson Green, Denise Welsh and Jerome Flynn in leading roles. It also spawned music cash-ins via Simon Cowell with Robson and Jerome releasing a cover of The Righteous Brothers Unchained Melody, while Denise covered Dusty Springfield’s You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me.
