Emeli Sande overtakes The Beatles album record
Emeli Sande has beaten The Beatles’ chart record of spending the most consecutive weeks in the UK’s Official Albums Chart Top 10 of any début album.
The biggest selling album of 2012, ‘Our Version of Events’ , was released last year and has not dropped out of the top 10 for 63 weeks. The record had been held by The Beatles, who released their début album ‘Please Please Me’ nearly 50 years ago.
Sande was one of the biggest music stars of 2012, performing at the London 2012 Olympic Games which propelled her into global fame.
“I’m completely lost for words and this is something I could only have dreamed of. The Beatles are the greatest band of all time and their legacy lives on and continues to inspire all of us that make music.”
I’m so happy that so many people have connected with the stories and the songs on the record, this really is our version of events now. I’d like to say thank you to everyone that has bought, played or shared my music in the last year, without your support this would never have been possible.” – Sande speaking to the Official Charts Company
To date, ‘Our Version of Events’ has sold 1.82 million copies and this year has sold 429,000, making it one of the biggest selling albums of 2013 so far.
