Radio 1’s Big Weekend line-up revealed

Nick GrimshawBruno Mars, Biffy Clyro and Calvin Harris have been announced as the headliners for BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2013 in Derry~Londonderry.

Nick Grimshaw (pictured) broke the news this morning on the Radio 1 Breakfast Show, announcing over 40 and artists playing over three days in one of Europe’s largest free music festivals.

Radio 1’s Big Weekend Derry~Londonderry 2013 takes place over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend in the heart of the city at Ebrington Square and Venue 2013. On Friday 24th May, the focus will be on dance music and 1Xtra; while Saturday 25th May and Sunday 26th May will feature a Main Stage and In New Music We Trust Stage.

The Friday night BBC Radio 1Xtra and Dance event will also include DJ sets from some Radio 1 and 1Xtra talent, including dance legend Pete Tong; Zane Lowe; MistaJam; carnival bassline hostess B-Traits; Toddla T; and Dance Anthems DJ Danny Howard.

The line up, including Calvin Harris, Danny Howard, Bruno Mars and Little Mix, will be joining Olly Murs and Two Door Cinema Club, who were announced earlier this year

Ben Cooper, Controller of Radio 1 and 1Xtra says: “This event is my favourite moment of the year – watching a great crowd sing along to amazing artists makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end.”

Tickets for BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend Derry~Londonderry 2013 were released on Wednesday 17th April and were snapped up in just under one hour.

BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend will be broadcast live on Radio 1, BBC Radio 1Xtra and streamed online at bbc.co.uk/radio1/bigweekend, the Red Button and on mobile. It will also be broadcast on BBC Three with highlights from acts across the weekend.
