BBC given access to rape centre for new documentary

BBC One is to screen a new documentary later this year looking at the work at a leading sexual assault referral centre in Manchester.

The one-off documentary, produced in part with Gold Star Productions, documents the work of this dedicated team of doctors, crisis workers and counsellors at St Mary’s Centre in Manchester.

As well as following the work of the team, the one-hour programme focuses on different aspects of the services available at St Mary’s SARC, which are shown through the personal stories of two women who have been raped: Juliet was attacked by a stranger on New Year’s Eve, while Kellie had known and trusted her attacker for over a decade.

Dr Catherine White, Clinical Director at St Mary’s added: “Participating in this documentary is not a decision we have taken lightly. By opening our doors, we wanted to encourage more people to seek the support St Mary’s can offer if they have experienced sexual violence.”
