E4’s Cardinal Burns to be ignited on Channel 4
The award winning E4 sketch show Cardinal Burns, starring duo Seb Cardinal and Dustin Demri-Burns, will return next year to a new home on Channel 4, for a second series.
C4’s Comedy Commissioning Editor, Rachel Springett said: “We are thrilled to have commissioned a second series of the multi award winning sketch show ‘Cardinal Burns’. We are delighted to bring to Channel 4 the likes of Banksy and The Office Flirt with a host of new brilliantly crafted and original characters including airline pilots Malcolm and Geoff and rapper Curtis Blow. ”
Sketch shows have been a mainstay of British TV comedy, well for just about forever. But despite the longevity and familiarity of the genre, every now and again, a sketch show comes along that manages to feel fresh, different and – crucially – funny, all at the same time – Cardinal Burns was that show, with their roll call of brilliantly conceived characters and finely-honed comic writing Channel 4 say.
And rightly so. The first series has been covered with awards including a British Comedy Award, two Broadcast Awards, a Loaded LAFTA award for Funniest TV Show and a BAFTA Nomination for the 2013 gong show.
Written and performed by Seb Cardinal and Dustin Demri-Burns Cardinal Burns will return with six half hour episodes produced by Left Bank Pictures.
Seb and Dustin, said: “We’re delighted to be given a second series – the response to the first series was slightly overwhelming. The fact that the series has moved to Channel 4 is just amazing and we’re thrilled to be collaborating with Brian Eno on our tricky second series.”
