CBS Axes CSI: New York and Vegas
CBS has cancelled crime dramas CSI: New York and Vegas due to low ratings.
The two drama’s were widely expected to be casualties of CBS’s ruthless axe. CSI: New York, the third entry in the once powerful CSI franchise, starred Gary Sinise. The forensic investigative drama concluded its ninth season earlier this year and ran for 197 episodes; just short of 200. The cancellation of the drama follows that of fellow spin-off CSI: Miami last year – it was a toss up then which of the two would be axed. With the demise of New York that now leaves just the mothership CSI to continue the brand on CBS but how long will that remain on-air for?
Vegas meanwhile has been cancelled at the end of its first season; the 1960s based drama starred Dennis Quaid, Jason O’Mara and Michael Chiklis. The crime drama was pulling in around 12 million viewers but its the 18-49 demo that matters and it had a 2.0 rating which seemingly wasn’t enough to save it. The writing was on the wall for Vegas when it had its episode order reduced and was later moved to Friday evenings; the graveyard slot.
Once in awhile, a quality show like CSI NY comes along and just because the “public”, that is being fed dumb comedies or unrealistic reality shows that they clammer to, those viewers that still have some brains in their heads, who enjoy quality television, must turn to reruns of those quality shows on secondary stations.
Sad but true that the major networks leave the “reality nonsense” on or the mindless sitcoms, and throw the good stuff to the secondary channels. It’s no wonder that these secondary channels are getting more and more viewers. All the viewer really wants is a good show with an interesting story line and quality actors. The ridiculousness that they are showing can be seen in real life if people really want it..
ALL REALITY SHOWS ‘THAT THEY ARE CALLED’ ARE STUPID AND MINDLESS. I AGREE THAT NETWORKS CANCEL ALL THE GOOD SHOWS AND LEAVE RETARDED SHOWS ON LIKE SURVIVOR, THE AMAZING RACE, BIG BROTHER, JUST GET REAL AND LEAVE THE GOOD SHOWS ON TV AND GET RID OF THE STUPID ONES
