The CW renews Nikita and The Carrie Diaries

NikitaThe CW has made the surprise move of renewing both Nikita and The Carrie Diaries.

It was widely predicted that one of the two would be cancelled by the broadcaster but The CW has done the opposite and renewed them both. Maggie Q drama Nikita will be returning for a fourth season but how many episodes will make it up remains unclear. It looks likely the fourth season will be the last for Nikita which isn’t a bad run for the spy drama given how weak its ratings are. Reports are indicating it will likely have a six episode fourth season to tie up loose ends but as yet The CW has not officially confirmed that figure.

Meanwhile Sex and the City prequel The Carrie Diaries will return for a second series; the 1980s based drama starring AnnaSophia Robb and Freema Agyeman was not a huge ratings hit but did generate a lot of buzz and towards the end of its first series started to win over its critics. However, its ratings performed was the reason why some tipped it for cancellation.

The Carrie Diaries joins fellow freshman drama Beauty and the Beast in being renewed for a second series; Cult and Emily Owens M.D were both axed following dismal ratings.
