Samantha Womack returns to EastEnders

Samantha Womack is to reprise her role as Ronnie Mitchell in EastEnders for six months.

Ronnie was last seen in 2011 when she was imprisoned for abducting Kat and Alfie Moon’s newborn son Tommy, who she switched for her dead baby son James on New Year’s Eve 2010.

Following the trauma of the loss of her child and the custodial sentence, Ronnie is soon to be released from prison and is heading back to Albert Square with Womack due to begin filming over the Summer.

“I am thrilled to be returning to the role of Ronnie for the next 6 months. Ronnie is coming out of prison and her re-appearance in the Square is going to create havoc. I can’t wait to be a Mitchell once again!” says Samantha Womack.

With her family to support her, Ronnie is determined to put the past behind her and rebuild her life, and reunited with sister Roxy, the pair will once again become a force to be reckoned with.

Not everyone will welcome the re-appearance of Ronnie however. There will be a few Albert Square residents who won’t want her to have an easy ride and she’ll have to front up to those she has wronged in the past, including ex-husband Jack Branning.

Womack’s return is said to be part of a big Summer and Autumn for the BBC One soap with many new faces arriving in Walford, bringing new and exciting dynamics to the Square.

Ofcom received 1,044 complaints over the two New Year episodes of 2010 which saw Ronnie swap her dead baby for the newborn son of Kat Moon while the BBC itself received 13,400 complaints.
