Nikki Sanderon reflects on Coronation Street role
Former Coronation Street star Nikki Sanderson has revealed that she hasn’t considered a return to the soap.
Sanderson is currently playing the role of Maxine Minniver in Channel 4’s Hollyoaks but was previously known to soap fans for her role of Candice Stowe in Coronation Street between 1999 and 2005.
She told Manchester Evening News: “I’ve never even thought about going back to Corrie – I left seven years ago.
“I’ve done so many other things in that time. That’s why it doesn’t even feel like a crossover going into Hollyoaks, I’ve had a complete career between the two soaps.
“It’s such a happy place on Hollyoaks, everyone has really welcomed me. And I love playing Maxine, she’s such a fantastic character and I really enjoy the comedy side of her character. And I get to say things to people that I would never, ever say in real life!”
Despite having never considered a return, Sanderon looks back fondly at her time on the ITV1 soap.
She reflected: “Corrie was my first main job and I loved it, I loved being challenged. When I left Corrie I went on to a job where we were filming four or five scenes a day. I couldn’t believe it, I was used to filming 16 scenes a day! I’d just assumed all TV work was like that. It taught me so much.”
Since leaving Coronation Street, and before joining Hollyoaks, Sanderson has also portrayed regular characters in New Street Law and Heartbeat.
