Corrie actor Le Vell pleads not guilty to child sex offences

Coronation Street star Michael Le Vell has pleaded not guilty to numerous child sex offences.

Appearing at Manchester Crown Court today under real name Michael Turner, the 48-year-old actor denied all 19 charges he faces which include raping a child, indecently assaulting a child and sexual activity with a child.

The alleged offences are said to have taken place between 2001 and 2010 and relate to one complainant.

Le Vell, who has played the role of Weatherfield mechanic Kevin Webster since 1983, spoke only to confirm his name and to enter his pleas. He will stand trial in September.

Insisting on his innocence, he previously said:

“I would like to  make it quite clear that following the serious allegations that have been  brought against me on Thursday, February 14, 2013, I am innocent of these  charges and intend to fight them vigorously.”

ITV bosses have confirmed that Le Vell will not appear in any further episodes of Coronation Street pending the outcome of legal proceedings. Le Vell changed to his stage name due to there already being an actor called Michael Turner who is best remembered for his role as J. Henry Pollard in Central Television’s Crossroads.
