The singer Christina Aguilera has added her support to the It Gets Better…Today campaign to support gay teens. The new campaign by the lobby group Stonewall is aimed at tackling homophobic bullying and giving gay teens hope. The campaign has been inspired by the similarly named American campaign which was launched in the wake of several suicides by gay teens.
Celebrities and high profile figures such as Adam Lambert, Hilary Clinton and even the president Barack Obama have all recorded You Tube messages of support for gay teens. Now Christina Aguilera has thrown her support behind Stonewall’s campaign here in the UK.
“I know just how important it is to feel like you can be yourself – in your career and in your everyday life. For anyone who feels like an outsider, I want to say: Don’t let the bullies win. Be yourself – and don’t let words get you down. It gets better today. With your help, Stonewall can make it happen.” – Christina Aguilera
Christina Aguilera made headlines in 2002 when the music video for her single Beautiful contained LGBT characters; such as a drag queen and a gay couple kissing on a street.
