Glee actor in gay support campaign

Gay NewsGlee actor Cory Monteith is leading a new online campaign against homophobia.

The actor, who plays Finn Hudson in the Fox musical, is one of several high profile actors supporting the new Straight But Not Narrow campaign. The new campaign aims to build bridges between the straight and the LGBT community urging people to look beyond sexual orientation and just ‘be themselves’. Actor Josh Hutcherson is also part of the new campaign.

The campaign is along similar lines to the It Gets Better campaign which was launched by high profile celebrities and politicians in America in the wake of a string of suicides. Up to 10 teens in America were believed to have committed suicide because of homophobia bullying they were subjected to by their peers. The It Gets Better campaign was launched to try and urge gay teens to seek support and reassure them they wouldn’t always face prejudice. Adam Lambert, Christina Aguilera and Hilton Clinton were amongst those who recorded video messages for the campaign.
