Corrie return for Liz McDonald
Coronation Street bosses have confirmed that Beverley Callard is to reprise her role of Liz McDonald in the soap.
Callard previously portrayed the character throughout several stints between 1989 and 2011. Liz was last seen fleeing Weatherfield after a failed attempt to buy the Rovers Return pub – which saw ex-husband Jim (Charles Lawson) imprisoned for armed robbery.
Liz returns after son Steve (Simon Gregson) turns to her for help following a fresh crisis with girlfriend Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh).
“I am coming home and I can’t wait. I am so excited to be back, I have missed Liz so it will be great to play her again. Hopefully her skirts will have got a little bit longer, but we will see!
“I have been getting texts from Simon saying we are going to rock the place and can’t wait to work with Kym again and see if we can control the giggles.” – Callard speaking to itv.com
Since leaving the soap, Callard has appeared in the play Little Voice, however stated last year that she wouldn’t rule out a comeback for Liz, telling the Daily Express “The door is open.”
“I’m truly thrilled to welcome Bev back to the street, she’s a fantastic actor and Liz McDonald is a truly wonderful character. It won’t come as any surprise to learn that her return is sure to ruffle more than a few feathers – welcome home Liz!” – Producer, Stuart Blackburn
Corrie fans can expect to see Liz McDonald back on screens in October.
Liz has had more comebacks than a boomerang.
Will hopefully spell the end of back room Stella.
Didn’t they do a tribute programme to her when she left in 2011? She shouldn’t have left in the first place if she’s ready to return already.
Callard must be in debt again.
They need to put Liz back in the Rovers St Ella with her catchphrase of “Round the back” just hasn’t worked as landlady.
