BBC cuts Torchwood gay sex scene
{jcomments on}The BBC has cut an explicit gay sex scene in a forthcoming episode of Torchwood: Miracle Day.
The gay sex scene features the character of Captain Jack (John Barrowman) with a barman. The scene is expected to air in full on the American premier broadcaster Starz. However, an edited version will be shown on the BBC because of concerns it’s not suitable to be shown so soon after the watershed. The BBC has confirmed the scene has been edited but the corporation also stated some violent scenes will also be subject to editing for similar reasons.
Russell T. Davies, Torchwood‘s showrunner, previously indicated that scenes for the BBC broadcast of Torchwood: Miracle Day would be censored because of the differences in what audiences expect on BBC One to Starz in America. The writer also stated such censorship would happen because in the UK the character of Captain Jack is seen as a “hero” by children and there’s a possibility some children would watch Miracle Day. However, Davies added that while there would be differences between the UK and American broadcasts British fans would be better off as the episodes would be slightly longer and feature additional material.
Torchwood Miracle Day continues on Thursday evening at 9pm on BBC One. Watch a preview here >>
