Nicki Minaj to leave American Idol

Nicki Minaj has confirmed that she has quit American Idol.

Minaj’s departure from the talent series has been speculated for some time and follows reports that Mariah Carey and Randy Jackson are also leaving their roles as judges on the series.

Minaj confirmed her departure on Twitter where she stated it was now time to focus on the music.

A joint statement released by broadcaster Fox and producers FremantleMedia and 19 Entertainment praised Minaj for the level of honesty and passion she had brought to the programme.

“Nicki Minaj is a superstar who brought a level of honesty and passion to American Idol and who had a tremendous positive impact on so many contestants this season,” it read.

“Given her extremely busy career, we understand and respect her decision and wish her the best.”
