Simple Minds and Jack Johnson join Radio 2’s Hyde Park gigs

BBC Radio 2Simple Minds and Jack Johnson have been revealed as the first of the big names to join the line-up to take to the stage as Radio 2 returns to Hyde Park this summer.

Now in its sixth year, on Sunday the 8th of September, BBC Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park returns for what promises to be a highlight in London’s live music calendar this summer. Taking part are some of the UK and world’s best-loved artists, along with the network’s much-loved presenters.

Each morning this week at 8.15am, Zoe Ball – standing in for Chris Evans on the Breakfast Show – will reveal a different artist taking part. Kicking off the week, Zoe today announced Simple Minds. The Scottish rock band, whose hits include Don’t You (Forget About Me), are no strangers to performing to sell-out crowds, having thrilled fans with worldwide tours spanning decades.

Zoe also revealed today that superstar singer song-writer Jack Johnson will be performing. Further artists will be revealed across the week.

Jeff Smith, Head of Music, Radio 2 and 6 Music, said: “It’s great to have Radio 2 back live in Hyde Park, in the heart of the capital joined by world famous artists who reflect the breadth and diversity of the network’s output. This year the focus is on getting friends and families together for a summer’s day out full of music and good times.”

Last year saw nearly 30,000 revellers flock to Hyde Park to see top acts including Tom Jones, Jessie J, Status Quo, Paloma Faith and Emeli Sande. This year music lovers can look forward to another line-up of big names and big talent.

The best of Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park will be available on the Red Button. And throughout the week afterwards, listeners will be able to hear the highlights across the station’s daytime shows as well as on the Radio 2 website, which will also feature exclusive backstage footage and interviews from the event.
