Chicago cardinal compares gay rights to the Ku Klux Klan
{jcomments off}A Cardinal in Chicago has caused outraged by comparing the gay rights movement to the extremist group the Ku Klux Klan.
Cardinal Francis George has come under fire for his words regarding gay rights during an interview with Fox Chicago earlier this week (Wednesday). The Cardinal was asked for his opinion on a local pastor who complained that the annual gay rights parade in the city would force his Church to cancel morning mass.
Cardinal Francis George responded to the question by giving his support to the pastor and made the controversial remarks ‘You don’t want the gay liberation movement to morph into something like the Ku Klux Klan, demonstrating in the streets against Catholicism’ When pressed by the interviewer regarding his words George added ‘The rhetoric of the KKK and the rhetoric of some of the gay liberation people — Who is the enemy? The Catholic Church.”
The Ku Klux Klan are notorious for their racist beliefs although are less active than they once were. The KKK were particularly active in the 1930s through to the 1950s but still enjoy support today from those who share their beliefs. Cardinal George’s comments have come under fire from gay rights group and will only strength the argument that the Catholic Church is out of touch with modern society.
