Video of Hilary Clinton's gay rights speech to UN released
The US State Department has released a video of Hilary Clinton’s speech on gay rights to a UN summit in Geneva.
Clinton, who is the Secretary for State in Obama’s administration, made a speech to a United Nations summit in Geneva earlier this month. The speech came after America declared that its agencies will challenge the criminalisation of homosexuality and other related LGBT issues in other countries.
Clinton’s speech to the summit was seen as vitally important in the battle against the rising tide of homophobia in some countries, especially African countries. Clinton’s speech includes references to such countries and she stated ”Some seem to believe it is a western phenomenon and therefore people outside the west have grounds to reject it. Well, in reality gay people are born into and belong to every society in the world.’
The speech has now been released as part of an “uplifting video” by the US State Department. The video features Clinton’s speech, clips included, against photos and clips of gay rights banners, flags and protest marches/gay pride rallies.
