Kirk Cameron brands homosexuality 'unnatural'

Kirk Cameron has branded homosexuality ‘unnatural’ and attacked gay marriage during an appearance on CNN‘s Piers Morgan Tonight.

The evangelical Christian was quite vocal in his disapproval of homosexuality and of the fight for gay marriage. Cameron appeared on Piers Morgan’s chat-show on CNN in an interview which drew some criticism from GLAAD, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance against Defamation.

Entertainment Weekly report that Cameron said on Piers Morgan Tonight, of homosexuality, ‘I think that it’s unnatural, I think that it’s detrimental, and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization’ On the issue of gay marriage Cameron said ‘Marriage is almost as old as dirt, and it was defined in the Garden between Adam and Eve. One man, one woman for life till death do you part. So I would never attempt to try to redefine marriage. And I don’t think anyone else should either. So do I support the idea of gay marriage? No, I don’t.’

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance against Defamation hit back with Herndon Graddick quoted by EW as saying ‘In this interview, Kirk Cameron sounds even more dated than his 1980s TV character. Cameron is out of step with a growing majority of Americans … with an increasing number of states recognizing marriage equality, Americans are seeing that marriage is about committed couples who want to make a lifelong promise to take care of and be responsible for each other and that gay and lesbian couples need equal security and legal protections. That’s not ‘redefining’ anything.’

Kirk Cameron is probably best known for his role of Mike Seaver in the 1980s ABC sitcom Growing Pains which ran for seven seasons between 1985 and 1992 clocking up 166 episodes. {jcomments off}
