Producer Phil Collinson has confirmed the fourth death was a taxi driver mentioned briefly in last week’s episodes by fire-fighters. The 50th anniversary week was promoted with the tag line “Four funerals and a Wedding“, a spin on the 1990s film ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral“

  

While fans expected the deaths of Molly Dobbs (Vicky Binns) and Ashley Peacock (Steve Arnold) there was much speculation over whom the third and the fourth victims would be. Once bunny boiler Charlotte was revealed as the third victims fans began to wonder whether Rita (Barbara Knox) or Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) would be the fourth victims. However, now its been revealed there is no major fourth victim some fans are unhappy and have labelled the death a ‘cop-out’.

Producer Phil Collinson has defended the lack of fourth death claiming it was necessary to keep fans in suspense over who the victims would be and to add more drama to the piece – leaving fans wondering if favourites such as Rita would survive. However, other fans feel cheated and mislead by the tagline for last week’s episodes especially as it was widely known that actors Vicky Binns and Steven Arnold were leaving and most had correctly guessed they would be killed off via the tram-crash.
