Chinese Character heading to Coronation Street

ITV soap Coronation Street are to introduce a new Chinese character according to tabloid reports.

 

Granada soap Coronation Street are set to introduce a new Chinese character to the Cobbles of Weatherfield, according to The Sun. The UK soaps have often been criticised for their lack of representation of the UK Chinese population but Corrie looks set to do something about that by introducing waitress Xin to Weatherfield.

 

“Manchester has a big Chinatown and it’s a crime that Corrie bosses have ignored it for so long. They hope Xin becomes a big character and that a whole family can be introduced.”- A “source” quoted in The Sun

 

According to The Sun the character will be friends withy Tina McIntyre and will move in with Tina and her boyfriend Graeme in the flat they rent from Dev. Xin will work in a nearby Chinese restaurant and takeway and will recognise the other residents of the street through their regular orders.
