Joan Collins has tipped James Bond actress Gemma Arterton to play Alexis Morrell in the proposed Dynasty movie.
Joan Collins has tipped James Bond actress Gemma Arterton to play Alexis Morrell in the proposed Dynasty movie. Richard Shapiro, co-creator of the legendary 1980s soap, revealed earlier this week that a movie of Dynasty was in the works. However, the proposed movie was a prequel to Dynasty rather than a remake; set in the 1960s it would follow a young Blake Carrington and would also feature Alexis Morrell – better known in Dynasty as Alexis Carrington Colby.
Actress Joan Collins played super-bitch Alexis from the second season of Dynasty until its finale in 1989 – reprising the role for its reunion movie as well. Her character was widely credited as putting Dynasty on the map and ensuring a ratings surge. With the news of the movie in the works Collins has tipped Arterton to play the younger version of her iconic character.
“She has all the qualities that Alexis needs. She’s sexy, she looks clever and she’s kind of vixenous.” – Joan Collins talking to E! Online
Gemma Arterton is a rising star with a number of high profile roles under her belt already. Her most recently role was as Tamara Drewe in the film of the same name and her other roles in include Strawberry Fields in the James Bond film Quantum of Solace and Tess in Tess of the D’Ubervilles.
Collins, having tipped Arterton to play Alexis, went on to tip Star Trek actor Chris Pine to play the young Blake Carrington, describing him as a ‘wonderful actor’. However, she also added her own idea was for a television continuation of Dynasty focusing on the next generation of Colby/Carrington family.
“I always thought they should do it today with Alexis’s grandchildren, who about 20 years ago were five and six,” – Joan Collins talking to E! Online
The planned revival of Dynasty’s 1980s rival Dallas is doing just that; focusing on the next generation of the Ewing family but original stars Linda Gray and Patrick Duffy have signed up for the TNT pilot and Larry Hagman is also in talks to join the project.
