Coronation Street actress Kym Marsh has been heavily criticised by Twitter users following a comment by her on BBC One drama Waterloo Road. The actress was reportedly Tweeting throughout last night’s National Television Awards ceremony but one such tweet fell foul of her fellow Twitter users. When it was announced that school drama Waterloo Road had won the Best Drama category Marsh tweeted: “Not being funny! Waterloo road??? X”
That comment didn’t go down well with other Twitter users and the actress was criticised. However, she hit back saying “Why are people getting so personal to me cos I don’t like Waterloo road? I’m not being personal to them less their in it! Bore off!! Ha x.” Her comments though failed to stop the growing backlash and Marsh tweeted further on the issue “Guys calm yourselves I’m not slagging Waterloo road I was simply saying that of the nominees I was surprised it win please calm down. My mates are in it and they ain’t offended so…….”
It’s not the first time a Coronation Street actress has made comments about winners at the National Television Awards. Jenny McAlpine, who plays Fizz, made comments about Casualty winning over Coronation Street in 2007 saying “That was ridiculous. I can’t be doing with hospital dramas. They make me sick.”
