Casualty records ‘spectacular stunt’ at Nene Valley Railway

BBC One soap Casualty has been recording scenes at the Nene Valley Railway for a forthcoming storyline.

BBC One soap Casualty has been recording scenes at the Nene Valley Railway, near Peterborough,  for a forthcoming storyline. The medical drama has filmed scenes at the popular Railway for an upcoming storyline involving teenagers and a train – although precise details are being kept under-wraps. The Peterborough Evening Telegraph describes the filming taking place as am “spectacular stunt”.

“It was a shoot involving a couple of teenagers and a train – and it being Casualty it is safe to say that it doesn’t go well. This is a big spectacular storyline we have been building up to” – Oliver Kent, Casualty’s series producer, quoted in the Peterborough Evening Telegraph.

Nene Valley Railway is a popular destination for television and film producers with a wide range of dramas and feature films having used the location. EastEnders last year filmed sequences on the railway for scenes involving bitchy Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks) and Ryan Malloy (Neil McDermott). Casualty has also used the location before and now defunct Firefighters drama London’s Burning also used the location.

ITV’s detective drama Poirot has used the Nene Valley Railway several times (most recently in Murder on the Orient Express and also The Mystery of the Blue Train) and sequences for James Bond (notably Goldeneye) films have also been shot there. Going further back to the 1970s BBC One drama Secret Army, set in occupied Belgium during the Second World War, used Nene Valley and the surrounding fenland countryside on a regular basis.

The sequences filmed by Casualty at Nene Valley Railway are due to be screened in episodes airing in June.
