Joan CollinsJoan Collins has talked about the proposed return of the 1980s soap Dynasty. Collins played the super-bitch Alexis Morrell-Carrington-Colby-Dexter in the soap joining in its second series and remaining until its finale in 1989 and returning for its reunion movie several years later. Collins role of Alexis is widely recognised as lifting Dynasty from its ratings lull and propelling it to the top of the charts; the schemes of Alexis and her plots against Blake (John Forsythe) formed the backbone of the series from then on.

In January it was announced than Dynasty’s co-creator Richard Shapiro was working on a film of the series – a prequel set in the 1960s following the young Blake Carrington as he enters the world of oil for the first time – the movie would feature a younger Alexis. Collins tipped British actress Gemma Arterton to play the younger Alexis. However, in an interview with Piers Morgan the actress has hinted she may be involved in the project more closely. When asked about Dynasty’s return Collins said;

“That’s what I hear. It could be. But I’m not allowed [to say] – I’m not allowed, I’m not allowed. My lips are sealed. My lips are sealed with a Dynasty doll. Well, I wouldn’t be talking about it if I wasn’t. But I mean, if it’s going to come back, it will come back in a different form, you know, like an amoeba. It wouldn’t necessarily come back as it left off. I don’t know.” – Joan Collins on Piers Morgan Tonight.

Dynasty’s rival Dallas is also returning but on television as TNT are reviving the drama. Original stars Larry Hagman, Linda Gray and Patrick Duffy have all signed up for the new Dallas.
