One Life to Live moving studios – again?
{jcomments on}ABC soap One Life to Live could be forced to move studios yet again – the second time in two years.
According to reports One Life to Live could be forced to move homes when it transfers from ABC to the internet. The soap is due to end on ABC in January at which time, under the deal with Prospect Park, it will follow fellow soap All My Children to the internet. But interestingly in the past few days reports have emerged that the soap will also be moving studios.
According to the Los Angeles Times the broadcaster is planning to use OLTL‘s studios for Katie Couric’s new chat-show which, ironically, could very well make General Hospital home-less in terms of time-slot. The chat-show, which will launch next year, will occupy the slot currently home to the medical soap prompting fears of its future. So it’s the height of irony that Couric show could make two soaps homeless; one studioless the other time-slotless. However, Soaps in Depth has stated that “nothing is decided yet”, dismissing the reports.
One Life to Live moved to its current studios in February 2010 when All My Children – which previously occupied them – moved its production to Los Angeles. Reports say that OLTL could move across to the Brooklyn studios that once housed soaps Another World and As The World Turns. Since the demise of As The World Turns last year the studios have stood empty so could easily accommodate OLTL.
The reports add further uncertainty over the futures of AMC and OLTL as they end on television and move over to the internet. It’s already unclear which stars will remain with the soaps with hints that AMC‘s Susan Lucci, who plays Erica Kane, will only be involved in “some capacity”. For fans of the ABC soaps its a tense time as they await news what the move will mean for their favourite soaps.
