ITV to repeat Betty Driver tribute
ITV is to repeat The Betty Driver Story following the death of the Coronation Street actress at the weekend.
The Manchester Evening News reports that the special will be repeated tonight at 8pm between the two episodes of Coronation Street. The Betty Driver Story originally aired in February this year and looked back at Driver’s long showbiz career. The actress died at the weekend at the age of 91 – she was a member of the Corrie cast for over 40 years as Rovers barmaid Betty Turpin, later Williams.
When the actress joined the cast in 1969 it was originally on a short-term contract but her character soon became a much loved fixture behind the Rovers bar. The landlords/landladys came and went (Annie Walker, Billy Walker, Bet Lynch ect) but Betty remained pulling pints and serving up her hotpots.
The Sun reports that Coronation Street bosses will be holding a meeting later today to discuss how to cover the death of the actress on-screen. Any such scenes explain the absence/departure of the character will likely air towards the end of this year/start of next year.
