Kym Marsh defends John Thomson criticisms
Kym Marsh has defended her criticisms of John Thomson after he spoke out against Coronation Street actor Anthony Cotton.
Last week Thomson took to Twitter to brand Cotton a “nasty piece of work” because of his behaviour on I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here. The actor, who played Jessie Chadwick in the ITV soap, also said that Cotton was “trouble with a capital T” to work with.
Cotton’s co-star, Kym Marsh, defended him in her regular column for Now magazine writing ‘I was surprised that ex-Corrie star and actor John Thomson felt the need to say on Twitter that Antony was a ‘nasty piece of work’. Not only is it unprofessional, it’s also untrue – Antony hasn’t got a nasty bone in his body!’
Marsh has now had to defend herself after her comments met with criticism from users on Twitter. The actress responded to tweets about her column by saying ‘Love being told I have no right to defend my friend and how it’s nowt to do with me.. Erm so what’s it to do with u then?’
When a Twitter user replied pointing out that Cotton’s conduct on I’m a Celeb had won him few fans the actress replied ‘yes but it’s an EDITED tv show made for shock and entertainment purposes and I KNOW the real Antony so am able to comment.’ She later tweeted ‘Yes Thompson IS entitled to an opinion as am I! And as Antony is my friend I am also entitled to defend him. Don’t u defend your mates?’
Marsh has prompted controversy with Twitter users before with one prime example being her comments about Waterloo Road‘s victory at the National Television Awards early this year. When the BBC One series won Best Drama she tweeted ‘Not being funny! Waterloo road???‘ which met with much anger from fans of the school-based drama.
