Alternative ending to All My Children was filmed
An alternative end to ABC soap All My Children was filmed but not used because the series was expected to continue online.
When ABC announced the cancellation of All My Children in April a finale was crafted by the soap’s creator, Agnes Nixon. However, the soap was then seemingly saved when ABC licensed it out to Prospect Park which planned to continue AMC, along with fellow axed soap One Life to Live, online. With the soap seemingly saved and continuing a different ending – a cliff-hanger designed to entice viewers to watch online – was written.
However, the original ending, as planned by Agnes Nixon, was apparently filmed according to several reports. Actress Chrishell Stause told TV Line “We did shoot a different version, and I love the version we shot originally…….But then the Prospect Park thing came about. We only had Kate Collins (Janet Green) for a few days, so we had to shoot our ending with her really, really early….And then they changed the ending to what you saw. What’s sad is that I know what the ending was supposed to be, so I feel like the fans were robbed. We all had these vignettes that were beautiful and really great, so that’s the biggest regret.”
Soapcentral.com report that the original All My Children finale featured flash-forwards showing the viewers a glimpse of their favourite characters futures – perhaps similar in style to the last few moments of HBO‘s prime-time drama Six Feet Under. It’s unknown whether fellow soap One Life to Live changed its original finale plans to suit the Prospect Park re-launch or not; the soap will continue to air on ABC until January.
AMC fans will now be wondering whether they’ll ever see the alternative ending to the soap or not.
