Brookside DVD Trending on Twitter
The Brookside DVD Campaign has in the last week been gaining a lot of Twitter followers as they prepare themselves for news from 4DVD on the hope that fans of the Channel 4 soap will be enjoying episodes on DVD in time for Christmas.
Brookside, axed in 2003, has continued to prove popular with fans despite no major repeats or DVD releases in the past few years. 4DVD last year showed interest in releasing a “Best Of Brookside” to be released for the Mersey Television – now Lime Pictures – produced saga’s 30th anniversary just before Christmas this year.
Lee Brady who has been running the Campaign since 2007 sent a petition with over 5,000 signatures to Lime Pictures, Channel 4 and creator Phil Redmond in Christmas 2010 and was contacted by 4DVD early 2011.
4DVD gave positive vibes suggesting that they would look into producing a package concerning Brookside and later asked fan website BrooksideFans.com to submit their ideas of what could be included in a retrospective DVD by suggesting the best storylines and classic moments from the 21 years of episodes.
While DVD projects can take time as performance rights and music clearance issues need sorting out, fans are left wondering whether their favourite soap opera is to hit the shops in November 2012 or not.
Lee Brady told us, “We are just waiting from 4DVD now on weather the DVD will be definitely coming out. We have worked very hard to get to this point since 2007 and we have full support from a lot of the cast and so many Brookside viewers.
“With it being right next to Christmas this could be an amazing seller. 21 years of classic storylines which broke boundaries and paved way for EastEnders and other programmes should be granted a special DVD to relive the classic moments featuring Barry Grant, Bobby and Sheila Grant, Harry Cross and right up to the later castings such as Jimmy Corkhill, Nikki Shadwick and Mick Johnson. We could never forget our Sinbad either.”
Recently social networking site Twitter saw users giving their support to the cause with the former soap trending on the site through re-tweets and Brookside support tweets.
