Katie Couric trying to save General Hospital?

General HospitalThere are reports that Katie Couric could be trying to get ABC to save its struggling soap opera General Hospital.

Katie Couric is set to launch her new chat-show on ABC later this year in the time-slot currently occupied by General Hospital. To many fans, and industry insiders, the fact that ABC has handed General Hospital‘s time-slot to Couric is a sign that the writing is on the wall for the aging medical drama. Fans fear the soap is not long for this world and when Couric’s show launches General Hospital will end.

However, not everyone is so pessimistic and some believe General Hospital will either move into prime-time, as some reports have suggested, or move to another time-slow such as that occupied by The Revolution. The life-style programme has been a total fop for ABC – pulling less than half the audience of One Life to Live which it replaced. Fans are hopeful that General Hospital will move into The Revolution‘s slot.

So is Katie Couric, if reports are to be believed. Couric is reportedly unimpressed by the performance of The Revolution – worried if it becomes her lead-in what her own ratings will be like. The reports claim that Couric therefore wants General Hospital to survive and be her lead-in – if true it would probably win over General Hospital fans and could avoid them calling for a boycott of her show if indeed the soap is axed.

As yet ABC has made no formal announcement over the future of the soap but time is running out and either way its fate will soon be decided.
