{jcomments on}The actress has played Lexie Carver on the last remaining soap for over 20 years and according to reports that makes her character the longest-running African-American character on television. However, TV Guide magazine reports that actress Renee Jones ahs decided to quit Days of our Lives and quite possibly acting as a whole.
Like they say, life is not a dress rehearsal! I am so excited about this decision. It’s been on my mind for over a year. I am so grateful to Days for 20 years of steady employment — it’s been a fantastic opportunity — but I finally had to stop and ask myself, “What really makes me happy? What really brings me joy in life?” And it’s not acting. I just don’t want to do this anymore. – Renee Jones speaking to TV Guide Magazine
The actress will bow out of Days in June and it will be a permanent departure from the soap because Jones doesn’t plan on returning in the future. Jones confirmed to TV Guide that Lexie will be killed off – for good. Characters in daytime soaps are often resurrected from the dead – there are too many examples to list – but Jones insists the writers of Days have come up with a way to ensure Lexie is quite obviously dead. ‘We [will] do something that guarantees it……I can’t tell you what it is, but it is definitely the end for Lexie’
