ABC renews General Hospital

Struggling medical soap General Hospital has been renewed by ABC while life-style programme The Revolution has been cancelled.Soap fans have two reasons to celebrate with the renewal of General Hospital and the cancellation of the ratings challenged The Revolution. The life-style programme was launched as a replacement for the cancelled soap One Life to Live but failed to take off with viewers and as such has been axed by ABC.

Deadline reports that ABC has renewed General Hospital for another year but its future beyond that is far from secure. Cancelling three soaps within a year would have prompted considerable back lash against ABC which is likely why they have given General Hospital another year on-air. Another reason is the recent change in show-runners with Frank Valentini taking the helm after finishing duties on One Life to Live. The new show-runner has brought across several OLTL characters in the hope of boosting ratings.
