Kierston Wareing talks EastEnders exit
EastEnders star Kierston Wareing has confirmed that it wasn’t her decision to leave the show.
The 37 year old actress has played the role of Kirsty Branning in the BBC One soap since Christmas 2012.
In September The Sun reported that new boss Dominic Treadwell-Collins had chosen to axe the character along with three others.
Speaking to TV Extra, Wareing revealed: “It wasn’t my decision [to leave], it was theirs. A new producer came on board and he wanted to shake things up.”
The actress added that although she would have been happy to stay on the soap she wasn’t satisfied with some of her alter-ego’s storylines.
“I always wanted them to make that choice. I wasn’t really happy with where the storylines were going, because I just thought it has become a bit one dimensional.”
Wareing previously branded the storyline where Kirsty pretended to be pregnant in order to keep husband Max (Jake Wood) “embarrassing”.
EastEnders, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday on BBC One.
