Big Brother 2009 contestant Charlie Drummond locked up

Charlie Drummond, Big Brother 2009Charlie Drummond who came 4th in the 2009 final of Big Brother has been sent to prison for 21 months after being found guilty of inflicting grievous bodily harm following an unprovoked attack against another man in Newcastle.

Drummond, who was the victim of an assault in 2007, appeared on Big Brother becoming popular among other housemates on the then Channel 4 show. The former winner of Mr Gay UK (regional heats 2007) made history in the series when he became involved with fellow contestant Rodrigo Lopes – the first gay relationship in the programme’s history.

In the live final the public voted Charlie fourth. Now Drummond is serving time for what has been described as a ‘mindless attack’ on an innocent victim.

The Newcastle Chronicle reports that the former reality star has been ‘sent to prison on his 27th birthday after a jury convicted him of inflicting grievous bodily harm.’ The newspaper reports that Drummond launched an attack on Jamie Rictchie which left him with a fractured leg and dislocated ankle.

Drummond had denied carrying out the city centre attack last April, however was found guilty of the assault which took place in the early hours of the morning. The Shields Gazette newspaper adds, ‘As a result of the violence, the victim’s foot was left “facing the wrong way” and needed three operations, with four months in plaster, to correct.’

The jury at Newcastle Crown Court took just two hours to convict Drummond, who has been sentenced to 21 months.
