ITV announced on Tuesday that Rampling will take a lead role in series two of Broadchurch which is due to begin filming shortly. It was confirmed this week that David Tennant and Olivia Colman will be reprising their roles as detectives Alec Hardy and Ellie Miller.

Hit ITV drama Broadchurch, penned by Chris Chibnall, focuses on the investigation into the death of local Broadchurch schoolboy Danny Latimer. Producers have said they are keeping Rampling’s role in the second series a secret but say she will play a “pivotal role.”

“Charlotte Rampling! We’ve been keeping this secret for months, it’s been agony! As you can imagine, Charlotte’s character is an integral part of our new story — but that’s where we’re drawing a veil, for now…” – Chris Chibnall, writer and creator of Broadchurch

The first series will be repeated on ITV Encore, a new Sky digital channel only which launches on Sky channel 123 on Monday 9th June.
