Filming on Waterloo Road to wrap for the final time today
Filming on BBC One’s Waterloo Road will wrap for the final time today (22 August).
The corporation announced in April that it would cease airing the school drama after its upcoming tenth series citing that it “has reached the end of its lifecycle”.
“We are incredibly proud of Waterloo Road, and would like to thank Shed Productions and all the cast and teams involved across the ten series. However, we believe it has reached the end of its lifecycle and won’t be returning after series 10 finishes in 2015.” – BBC Controllers Charlotte Moore and Ben Stephenson
Produced by Shed Productions, the show has dealt with a number of topical issues since its launch in 2006 including teacher-pupil relationships, teenage pregnancy and immigration.
Over the years the programme has seen extensive changes from a high turnover of regular characters including head teachers, teaching staff and pupils, to the entire school relocating from Rochdale to Greenock, central Scotland in 2011, where its final scenes will be filmed later today.
There are twenty episodes of Waterloo Road still to air on BBC One, with a further ten from series nine due to air later this year, and the rest – making up the show’s final and tenth series – going out in 2015.
