Channel 4 launch online comedy content with live event
Fresh comedy talent will be showcased in a live broadcast on the station’s You Tube comedy channel.
Channel 4 will mark the launch of their original online comedy strand with an exclusive live-stream event on Channel 4 Comedy’s YouTube channel tomorrow (Tuesday 26th November) from 8pm.
This unique evening of comedy, titled The Paddock, will highlight new content produced by creative partner Blink Industries. Described as ‘Fresh, anarchic and eclectic’ the content will bring together some of the UK’s most exciting, innovative and experimental comedy talent performing across a mix of stand-up, sketch, character, musical comedy and everything in-between.
Transporting viewers to a late-night comedy gig, the streamed event brings together the energy, pace and excitement that you’d usually experience in a crowded comedy club. ‘But the best part is’, Channel 4 note, ‘you don’t have to leave your sofa – especially on a cold winter evening!’
Performers include Edinburgh Comedy Award Winner Jordan Brookes and Nominees Mat Ewins, The Delightful Sausage, and Olga Koch. Sketch group Britney; a comedy duo, featuring Charly Clive from Channel 4’s Pure and BBC’s The Pale Horse, Ellen Robertson; star of Harry Hill’s Clubnite Phil Dunning; host of the popular podcast, What Women Want, Amy Annette; stars of Channel 4’s Flowers, Anna O’Grady and Helen Cripps; and Scottish BAFTA New Talent Award Nominee Katia Kvinge.
This event is just one of five strands that form part of new Original Comedy on Channel 4 commissioned specifically for social media channels. In other comedy news Taskmaster is heading to the network. The show, starring Greg Davies and Alex Horne, has most recently aired on UKTV’s Dave where its run for nine series. It started as a live show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
“We’ve had an amazing nine series on Dave and I’d like to thank UKTV for letting us do such ridiculous things for so long. Greg and I are looking forward to getting started on a new series for Channel 4 from next year. It seems like the right time to move to a channel with a broader audience and I can reassure people who like the show that it won’t be changing one bit and I’ll still be forced to do things no one should ever have to do.” – Taskmaster creator Alex Horne
