BBC One announces penguin documentary

BBC One is to enchant and enthral viewers with a one-off documentary about penguins.

Snow Chick from the beeb’s acclaimed Natural History Unit will tell the story of an emperor penguin chick growing up in the coldest place on Earth in the middle of the Antarctic winter.

Focussing on the vulnerable and charismatic penguin chick, the film will follow his adventures from the time he emerges from the egg to the moment he leaves for the sea as a boisterous adolescent.

The film has been earmarked for transmission in 2015 and was commissioned by Executive Producer, John Downer; Charlotte Moore, Controller of BBC One, and Tom McDonald.

Downer, who has previously worked on Penguins: Spy in the Huddle for the BBC, says the documentary is “one of the greatest wildlife stories ever told”.
