BBC axes Total Wipeout
BBC One has confirmed it has axed game-show Total Wipeout but it will return for one final series.
The Saturday evening gamshow, hosted by Richard Hammond and Amanda Byram, is based on the American series by Endemol. Total Wipeout has clocked up four seasons as well as the predictable celebrity spin-off and more recently Winter Wipeout which aired last year on BBC One.
At its height the endurance game-show pulled in over 5 million viewers but the BBC has today confirmed it has cancelled the series though it will return for one final season. Despite its popularity with viewers Total Wipeout has come under criticism during its course.
The criticism mostly focuses on the fact it is filmed in Argentina rather than the UK which is seen as overly expense and a waste of licence fee payers money. The BBC has always argued that filming Total Wipeout in Argentina would be cheaper than building the set in the UK.
