Britain’s Got Talent winner dropped from record label

Last year’s winner Jai McDowall has been dropped from Sony after just one album.

The Scottish singer beat favourite Ronan Parke to win £100,000 and a slot at the Royal Variety Performance. Following his win he signed a joint deal between Syco and Sony and began working on his debut album.

His album ‘Believe’ was released in December 2011 but failed to hit the big time, only peaking in the album chart at 54.

Speaking to the Daily Mail he says he regrets not ‘pushing’ the record company further. “I was just going along with it, because I didn’t really know what I was doing. I did what I was told. I feel I could have pushed them a bit more, but I think they could have worked a bit harder with the promotion.”

The new series of Britain’s Got Talent kicked off last week.
