Matt Lauer has signed a new contract with NBC which will see him continue as co-host of Today programme.

Lauer, who has been co-anchor since 1997, was the subject of press speculation that he could be leaving. Late on Thursday it was announced that he had signed a ‘new long-term contract’ with NBC.

On Friday, he confirmed the news live on the show saying that he ‘loved his job’. NBC’s Today programme is one of America’s most high profile television programmes and noted as NBC’s most profitable.

Earlier this week former Alaska governor Sarah Palin came in to co-host part of the show on Tuesday.
