Emmy win for Bold and the Beautiful
The winners of the 36th Daytime Emmy awards have been announced and daytime soap Bold and the Beautiful picked up the award for Best Drama Series. Guiding Light, which ends this month after 72 years on air, also picked up an award.
American daytime soap The Bold and the Beautiful has picked up to the Best Drama Series at the 36th annual Daytime Emmy Awards. It is the first time the soap has won the award since its launch 22 years ago. The series was created by William J Bell who also created fellow CBS soap The Young and the Restless – there have been several crossover storylines between the two soaps over the years. Actor Christian Le Blanc, who plays Michael Baldwin, in The Young and the Restless picked up the Best Actor Gong.
Elsewhere in the world of American soaps actress Susan Heskell was named Best Actress for her 
role in ABC soap One Life to Live. The daytime soap will move to bigger studios and switch to HD filming in January as part of a radical shake-up of ABC’s soap line up. Fellow soap All My Children will move production from New York to Los Angeles which will see it also move over to HD filming but such a drastic change in location is bound to affect the soap in other ways. Not all the cast members on the soap have decided whether or not they’ll follow the soap across to the other side of the country.
Also recognised at the Daytime Emmy awards was Guiding Light which will draw to a close after this month after an incredible 72 years on air. The soap has been cancelled by CBS due to declining ratings after several revamps failed to see any rise in ratings. The soap tied for Best Supporting Actor with All My Children. Jeff Brandson picked up Guiding Light’s award for that category for his role of Shayne Lewis while Vincent Irizarry picked up the award for his character of David Hayward on All My Children.
